<< GO Back Son of the Earth

As the setting sun makes the evening glow
dissolve in the spring water of your meadows,
Softly, I say
Earth Ah, Mother
Please accept a
clumsy and obstinate son
who holds you in deep respect!

My childhood,
quietly passed by in your bosom.
On that speckled with footprints
path of life,
there was the fragrance of mountain flowers,
the colors of sunset,
the sweetness of laughter . . . . . .
Of course,
I cannot forget,
sprinkled on
your chest, those tears,
childish sleep-talk,
the sighs on winter nights . . . . . .

As the sun
again shines on the earth,
your blazing mountains and fields
Calls to mind how I for you
In past, now and in future
have boundless affection!
I¡¯ve traversed crisscrossing
avenues and alleys,
Picked up those
age-old legends,
age-old legends,
the dew of spring . . . . . .
Earth Ah, Mother,
my, this throbbing heart,
wherefore lost the rhythm?

I once grasped the old wooden plow,
using brawny arms
exerted an entire body¡¯s strength.
On your corpus
etched a mark of cultivation!
Earth Ah, Mother,
I know
those by flood
washed out roadbeds,
by wild fire
scorched virgin soil,
Only waiting for me
no, us
To make our ideals and love
Entwined with every breath . . . . . .

Carrying scars
yet more a burning conviction,
Between oases and wilderness,
Between dawn and dusk
I¡¯m coming,
Earth Ah, Mother!
Please remember: you have a
clumsy and obstinate son . . . . . .
